Purpose

WYC takes a holistic view of the concept of health and wellness; therefore, participants can choose from a wide range of activity options within this program area. The purpose of the Center’s Health and Wellness program is to provide opportunities for youth to participate in health and wellness programs which cover a range of interests, e.g., healthy relationships, gardening, and healthy food preparation, etc. There are both formal and informal opportunities for youth to participate. Peer education (e.g., Narcan/opioids, vaping, healthy relationships, etc.) is a large component of this program. While there is no formal assessment or entrance criteria for the programs, WYC does measure individual and group growth over the course of the programs through pre- and post-surveys. Participants pursue personal goals in their area of interest within the broader topic of health and wellness. Groups are typically time limited and recurring (e.g., annually, quarterly, summer, etc.) and typically run 8-13 weeks, depending on the group/topic; age/gender limits may apply; programs are typically capped at 15-20 participants per cycle.

They provide consistent support, crisis intervention, and guidance, helping clients build social skills, manage frustration, and develop self-discipline to succeed as adults.
