Worcester Youth Center’s culinary training program at Quinsigamond Community College offered Jean a new path. After completing the course, he’s already moved from NuCafe’s kitchen to become a bar/line cook at the Sole Proprietor. “In the kitchen, every day is new,” he said. “We have to be ready.”
Yesenia walked into the Worcester Youth Center, interviewed and was hired the same day. Within a year or two, she was supervising other peer leaders, creating new community service projects and running the snack bar.
Barend Woode got over 40 youth to come into the Worcester Youth Center to be tested for their basic skills level of academic achievement. Many of them entered the GED program at the Center to work towards a high school equivalency diploma.
While there are many more like Barend, Yesenia and Jean, their stories encapsulate the life benefits bestowed by WYC membership.
